Differences between Arabica and Robusta
Arabica
Robusta

Grow in higher altitudes

Vulnerable to pests

Takes years for the shrub to produce any fruit

The harvest is done by hand

It is more acidic

It is sweeter with a fruity tastes and undertones of berries. Arabica beans are responsible for the taste in a blend

Less content of caffeine

More expensive

Grow in lower altitudes

Strong against pests

The shrubs grow easily and produce berries quicker than Arabica.

The harvest is done with machines

Less acidic

It is bitter and has a nuttier taste. Robusta beans are responsible of the cream (crema) in a blend.

Double the content of caffeine than Arabica making the bean less vulnerable to pests.

Less expensive
A cup of coffee, very much like a glass of wine, is characterized by its sweetness, aroma, acidity, flavor and body. A single Arabica origin can provide the flavor but not body. On the contrary, a single Robusta origin can provide body to your cup of coffee with bitter flavor due to its high content of caffeine.
For a decadent cup of coffee, we suggest a high-quality blend, such as the Meza coffee blend that will have at least 70% Arabica beans and 30% Robusta. (next)
